As a 15 year old in the 1960’s, I had the blessed opportunity to “rebel” INTO the Church, much to the consternation of my non-religious parents. (I must add, before he passed away years later, my Father finally acknowledged that swearing off alcohol, drugs, and premarital sex was not the worst thing a girl could do to her father in the 60’s.)
Now the third generation of my family is being blessed in the Church. Seekers in Poland were blessed by my older son’s mission there (right after the fall of communism), as were the Spanish speaking people of Houston by the efforts of my oldest “Bonus Daughter.” And someday, when my grandchildren are verbally accosted by someone who wants to deny their agency in choosing their personal standards, I hope they will respond with the fervor (yet tolerance) of this remarkable young man.
