AAPD Honors the Church

AAPD & ChurchThe American Association of People with Disabilities has paid a great honor to the Church. At its annual Leadership Awards Gala on March 5, 2013, the AAPD awarded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with its Image Award for “outstanding work in mass media which positively change public perceptions and opinions about people with disabilities.”

The “I’m A Mormon” campaign on Mormon.org has regularly included profiles of members who have disabilities. AAPD President and CEO Mark Perriello described these as “powerful,” and said, “They tell the disability experience in a way that is real, no apologies, and it’s absolutely astounding.”
