In 2013, our family was greatly blessed to attend the Tabernacle Choir Pioneer Concert in person. After years away from the valley, the immediacy of the experience was amazing! We had a particular reason to be moved by one of the final moments in the concert.
My husband and I left for Great Britain a few days later to bless a new grandchild in Wales and visit Preston, England, where my husband’s mother’s family joined the Church long ago. I also have heritage from that part of the world and am always stirred by a Scottish or Irish tune.
As the first strains of Scotland the Brave were raised, no lyrics were needed to unite the audience in response to what all recognized as the source of a beloved Latter-day Saint hymn.
